Magical Girl

A Magical Girl (魔法少女, mahō shōjo) is a human who has made a contract with an Incubator (Usually Kyubey) in exchange for a wish. With the contract a Soul Gem is made from the girl's soul. A Magical Girl can transform between her normal and Magical Girl form at will. Since darkness accumulates in the Soul Gem, a Magical Girl needs to fight Witches and obtain Grief Seeds to remove the darkness.

When they contract, the Incubator takes the soul out of a girl's body and puts it into a Soul Gem without their knowledge. Additionally, a Magical Girl who does not clean her Soul Gem will become a Witch.

Sometimes known by other names, such as Diviner, Battle Shamaness, or even names of mythological creatures, such as Rakshasi.
